Voice over IP
Each of our manufacturer partners offers a Voice over IP solution. Once we understand
your organisation, we will recommend the one which we think most effectively fits
the needs of your business now and in the future. The key thing you need to be aware of is that
you must work with a company that understands data networking as thoroughly as it
understands communications technology.
VoIP and your network
With VoIP, your telephone system is not a completely independent element as it used
to be, instead it becomes part of your data infrastructure and is in effect just
another ‘application’ which runs on your local area network. So the first thing
you need to determine is whether you network is actually capable of supporting a
VoIP solution, or whether it needs to be upgraded first.
So, when we recommend a VoIP solution to our customers, the first thing we do is
to carry out a ‘network readiness’ survey. Once we have done this we’ll be able
to let you know how you need to progress and what additional work, if any, needs
to be done. Once we’re sure your network is ready for VoIP, we can then implement
the solution you need, safe in the knowledge that it will work first time!
VoIP and your staff
An IP-based telecoms solution is ideal if you have staff who work from home or who
travel extensively, or if you have any remote sites. Whether this is half a mile
up the road or on the other side of the world, you will have the ability to attach
IP handsets or IP softphones to your telephone system and then make calls between
your main office and these remote phones completely free of charge. On top of that,
your staff will also be able make and receive calls anywhere in the world using
their office direct dial number.
VoIP and your IT department
With Voice over IP, administration of the system is also simplified, as are adds,
moves and changes. If one of your users is relocating to another desk, or another
office, all they have to do is unplug their IP phone, take it with them, plug it
in at their new desk and log in! It’s as simple as that. In addition, administrators
can log in securely from anywhere in the world to make changes to the system.
